parkinson's organizations

There are many organizations focused on research, advocacy, care and support for the Parkinson's community.  These include non-profit foundations, medical and research centers, government agencies, regional support groups, and advocacy groups. Each has its own special focus, but all share the common goals of improving the lives of those affected by Parkinson's disease and someday finding a cure.

California's nonprofit Caregiver Resource Centers are located throughout the state and provide core services to families and caregivers ranging from counseling and care planning, to legal/financial consulting and respite, at low or no cost.

The centers are affiliated with the San Francisco-based

Family Caregiver Alliance (​ is an online destination for those seeking information and support as they care for aging parents, spouses, and other loved ones. The site provides Senior Living and Senior Care directories and advice on geriatric medicine, law, finance, housing, and other key areas of healthcare and eldercare. is a provider of information, support and guidance for family and professional caregivers.  It publishes "Today's Caregiver" magazine and maintains a web site,, with topic specific newsletters, online discussion lists, back issue articles of Today's Caregiver magazine, and chat rooms.

Caregiver Action Network (formerly National Family Caregivers Association) ( is a non-profit organization providing education, peer support, and resources to family caregivers across the country free of charge.

National Alliance for Caregiving ( is a non-profit coalition focused on improving the lives of caregivers and their families through research, innovation and advocacy.

A list of excellent books on PD can be found on by searching on the keywords "Parkinson's disease" and selecting books that are highly rated and cover topics of particular interest to you (e.g., overview books for the newly diagnosed or books by patients for patients).  Books with more recent publishing dates should have more up-to-date information on research and treatment options.
